The Adidas-Battle the Bus National Wrestling Tour will take its maiden voyage on July 24th with its final destination in Spokane, Washington; the home of the famous wrestling movie, Vision Quest, from the 80’s. Leaving Mi-Revolution Training Centers in Highland, MI the world famous Mike Krause (Flo-Wrestling’s Youth Coach of the Century) and Mario Flores (Coolest Coach in wrestling) will be taking a group of 30 wrestlers from 10 states on a 21 day excursion of some of the best clubs, colleges, and clinicians in the country. 10 of the wrestlers are from Michigan with kids coming as far away as California and South Dakota.
The tour kicks off on July 24th at 6:30pm at the University of Michigan with Coach Josh Churella and company joining in to share some of their world class knowledge with these the bus. Why is it called Battle the Bus? Coach Mario Flores said, “Our goal is to provide wrestlers from all over the country with an opportunity to combine training as well as fun and life experiences together in a trip of a lifetime. There are so many pockets of talent throughout the country that we want to be able to learn and train with them in a setting where we are working hard and learning everywhere we go. The idea is that we show up with a bus of kids from all over and at each stop there is a group of 50-100 kids waiting to train with us. We will do an hour of technique and drilling then a live session where we can compete with each other ..Maybe play some dodgeball!!”
The bus will then travel to Foxfire wrestling club outside toledo before it heads west into Indiana and Stoughton, WI. While in Wisconsin, the boys will join a team camp with the state champions in Stoughton before headed to Powerhouse wrestling club in Iowa. Other stops include: Legends of Gold, Sons of Thunder in CO (home of the Funky Flikr Boys), The Olympic Training Center. Its not just all about grinding, these wrestlers will take a few days to enjoy the landscape. They will have go to the Cave of Winds in Colorado Springs and drop 300 ft into a canyon at over 100 miles an hour as seen on Good Morning America. They will also go rafting in Moab, Utah. The group will then travel outside of Las Vegas to SLAM academy in Henderson before making their way west to California. The Fresno valley is a hot bed for wrestling with teams such as the Clovis area, Buchanan, and powerhouse Selma joining up to Battle the Bus.
A trip to see Coach Jason Borelli at Standford will send the group north as they search for Bigfoot in the Redwood National Forest. After a 3 day stint in California, the group will make their way up Interstate 5 and onto Liberty high school in Portland, Oregon. The final two legs will be in Seattle and Spokane Washington. There the boys will run on the same route as seen on Vision Quest.
